The term “Parkway” applied to the Zachary Taylor project is significant, clearly indicating that this route will be a scenic transportation corridor with a variety of tourism and recreation opportunities. Much like the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and North Carolina, or the Natchez Trace Parkway that stretches through Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama, the Zachary Taylor Parkway will offer a pleasant driving experience while highlighting all of the surrounding Louisiana countryside.
In many areas, economic development activities are thriving. In others, the potential for forward-thinking, progressive individuals and companies looms on the horizon, especially with the completion of the John James Audubon Bridge. Spanning the Mississippi River and linking New Roads and West Feliciana areas, the bridge will be an impressive structure anchoring the Zachary Taylor Parkway and connecting east and west.
